Climate-Smart Agriculture

Lifnet’s Tech for Agriculture program is set to redefine what’s possible for rural farmers across Uganda. We’re fundraising to establish 100-acre, tech-enabled demonstration farm – a living, learning ecosystem that blends climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, cutting-edge tools, and inclusive training to create a scalable tech-driven agricultural transformation model for modern African farming.

Agri – Tech Demonstration Farm

A National Hub for Agricultural Innovation, Training & Transformation

Your funding will help us establish a 100-acre farm in Eastern Uganda, fully equipped with diverse crop and livestock units, supported by digital and renewable energy technologies.

The Vision

We envision a future where Uganda’s farmers are embrace smart, sustainable agriculture. This farm will serve as a national center of Agri-Tech excellence, where farmers, agri-cooperatives, universities, schools, governments, and donors can witness firsthand how technology transforms productivity, profitability, and resilience.

About the Tech-Enabled Model Farm

This 100-acre farm will be diversified, climate-resilient, and fully integrated with renewable energy and digital tools. It will host:

  • A sustainable forest block to promote agroforestry and carbon sequestration
  • Intercropped fruit orchards including mangoes, apples, oranges, and avocados
  • High-yielding banana plantations with drip irrigation
  • Extensive maize and coffee fields, supporting Uganda’s key cash crops
  • A modern dairy and beef cattle unit, with rotational fodder plots
  • Mixed goat and poultry farming systems, ideal for rural replication
Each enterprise will serve as a practical training site showcasing cost-effective, proven models that farmers can adapt to their own contexts.

The Lifnet Agri – Tech Demonstration Farm will integrate next-generation and renewable energy agricultural technologies to maximize yield, conserve resources, and boost efficiency. These include:

  • Solar-powered irrigation systems for energy-efficient water management and Solar water pumps for off-grid water access
  • Tech tools for planting, weeding, and harvesting that are cost-effective and farmer-friendly
  • Agro-processing equipment for maize, fruits, bananas, and nuts
  • Solar drying facilities for value-added preservation of bananas, fruits, and vegetables
  • Solar Powered milking machines and dairy processors to increase hygiene, efficiency, and shelf life
  • Drone technology for real-time field mapping, crop health monitoring, and pest surveillance
  • Soil diagnostics kits to guide smarter input use and reduce environmental degradation
  • IoT-based monitoring dashboards for precision farming and data-driven decision-making
  • Each tool will be demonstrated, documented, and taught through structured workshops, turning abstract technology into real, usable skillsets for local farmers.
  • Replicable Models – Everything on the farm is designed to be scaled by local farmer groups with minimal investment.
  • Inclusive Design – Focused on smallholder, youth, and women-led farming systems.
  • Public-Private-Community Partnership Model – A testbed for collaboration between academia, government, tech startups, and development agencies.
  • Open Access Learning – Farmers, students, NGOs, and government extension officers will be invited to tour, train, and co-innovate.

Why This Matters

Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy yet the majority of smallholder farmers still lack access to the tools and knowledge they need to thrive. The Lifnet Demonstration Farm addresses this gap by creating a safe, well-resourced, and inspiring environment where:

  • Farmers learn by doing not just theory
  • Innovations are tested in real-world conditions
  • Communities co-create solutions with experts, not for them
  • Funding partners can see their investments in action and measure their impact

We are seeking vision-aligned donors and partners to help us establish this transformative site. Your funding will directly support:

  • Land acquisition and infrastructure development
  • Installation of renewable energy and irrigation systems
  • Procurement of agro-tech equipment and smart tools
  • Recruitment of trainers, agronomists, and community liaisons
  • Awareness and outreach to farmers, farmer groups, NGO’s, Schools and universities nationwide
  • Roll out national training programs and extension services
  • Partner with universities, governments, and agri-startups to scale

With your partnership, the Lifnet Agri -Tech Demonstration Farm will become a national landmark – proving that African agriculture can be innovative, inclusive, and very profitable.

Digital Visibility For Farmers

Let’s support you to expand your reach

Technology for Value Addition

Hands-on training to support farmers move up the value chain, increasing income by producing finished goods, not just raw materials.

Trainings such as:

Tomato paste, processing fruits into juice and dried fruits

Peanut butter, bread from bananas and potatoes

Fortified flour milling (bananas, potatoes, maize, wheat)

Tea and coffee processing

Poultry and dairy product processing

Agri – Tech

Hands-On Training and Digital Skilling

Agri-Tech Made Simple

We train farmers and youth on how to use modern agricultural technologies such as drones, mobile applications, and smart sensors. These sessions help demystify tech tools and ensure participants can confidently integrate them into everyday farming practices.

Business Skills for Farmers

Through interactive workshops, we equip farmers and cooperatives with essential business knowledge covering financial literacy, budgeting, bookkeeping, and value chain planning – turning traditional growers into smart agri-entrepreneurs.

Accessing Markets and Selling Smarter

Participants learn how to identify new markets, negotiate prices, and position their products for better visibility and value. We also introduce tools for digital marketing and local market platforms to help farmers reach buyers directly.

Equipment Maintenance

To reduce reliance on external technicians, we provide basic training in the maintenance and repair of essential agri-tech equipment like solar pumps, irrigation systems, and mobile devices – ensuring longevity and cost savings.

Record-Keeping in the Digital Age

We show farmers how to use digital tools for tracking expenses, yields, inventory, and customer data. This boosts accountability, enables informed decision-making, and improves access to finance and extension services.

Peer-Led Mobile Learning Units

Our solar-powered mobile training units travel to remote communities, delivering bite-sized, peer-led sessions in local languages. These sessions bring practical skills right to farmers’ doorsteps – making digital inclusion truly inclusive.
